Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories -- The Naples Project
The Naples Quilters Guild is a proud participant in the Alliance for the American Quilt's wonderful project calledQuilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories. As their website says, " Quilters' S.O.S. - Save Our Stories is continually capturing the voices and stories of quiltmakers and adding the interviews here. These interviews were conducted by volunteers from across the country. "
Our project began several years ago and to date, twenty two of our members have been interviewed and twenty two are online. You may read the transcriptions and see a photo of each quilter and one of her quilts by clicking here Check out interviews by Location, then scroll to NAPLES FLORIDA.
QSOS is a project to capture GRASSROOTS QUILTING STORIES. EVERYONE has a story about how he or she became a quilter. Interviewing has the simplest of guidelines. You are merely conducting a conversation with a quilter - while a tape recorder is running--no more than 45 minutes. The next step is for a volunteer to transcribe the audio tape so it can be read online. There are currently nearly 750 interviews online and we are eager to continue to contribute even more. [NOTE: this is an ancient nunber. There are thousands of interviews online.] The audio tapes are archived at the American Folklife Center in the Library of Congress
Since this is a guild project , we encourage any of our members to volunteer. Would you like to be interviewed? Would you like to learn how to conduct interviews? How about learning to transcribe? We would love to hear from you! Please contact Joanne for more information.
